BURERA-Two Rwandans, who were recently arrested in the neighbouring Kisoro district in Uganda for lack of travel documents, were last week repatriated. The two who were identified as John Zirakwaye, and Nsanzemuhire Ngendahimana were handed over to the Rwandan authorities at Cyanika border by Ugandan Police. The Northern Regional Police Commander, CSP Peter Hodari, told The New Times that the move is in line with cross border cooperation aimed at promoting peace and security. “We advise people to acquire travel documents to avoid any problems, but this (repatriation) helps because we share with our counterparts information on criminals and other cross border illegal activities,’’ Hodari said. Burera district which neighbours Kisoro has a high number of cases of trafficking of illegal alcohol, commonly known as Kanyanga, Chief waragi, and marijuana. Local authorities have attributed domestic violence and crimes in the sectors adjacent to the border to the smuggling and subsequent consumption of such drugs by the residents. Ends
