After a successful volleyball league season that concluded over the weekend, local volleyball governing body (FRVB) shifts focus on the 2023 Heroes Day tournament which is due in Kigali from January 28-29. The annual competition, which is organized in partnership with the National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO), is among sports events lined up as part of the National Heroes Day celebrations that take place every February 1. The two-day showpiece will be contested for in both men and women categories. According to FRVB Secretary-General Philbert Mucyo, each category will bring together teams that finished in the top four during the just-concluded national volleyball league. The semifinals will be played on January 28 and the finals will take place the following day. All the games will be held at Kimisagara Gymnasium. The last time the tournament took place was in 2020. University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB) volleyball teams, now defunct, won the titles in both men and women categories. The 2023 participants in men 's category include champions Rwanda Energy Group(REG), Gisagara, APR and Forefront while APR, Forefront, Rwanda Revenue Authority and Ruhango will participate in the women’s fray.
