RWANDA Olympic committee will send a team of 24 players to this year’s Daimler Cup and Bourse Iba Mbaye tournaments to be held in Bujumbura, Burundi from September 25-26. The Burundi Olympic committee through Burundi Olympafrica will cater for the visiting teams’ transport and accommodation, Burundi’s Olympic committee Executive Secretary Tharcisse Harelimana has confirmed. His counterpart from Rwanda Olympic committee, Thierry Ntwali said that the travelling team was selected from the Daimler Cup football tournament held at Nyanza stadium recently. The Daimler Cup was contested for by 30 teams drawn from around the country with each side allowed to register 10 players. The format is different from the normal football games, where teams comprise of 11 players on each side. The teams’ field seven players aside and they only use half pitch for the matches. The travelling team includes; Abuba Niyoyita, Hassan Hakizimana, Emmanuel Mwenedata, Yakuba Byukusenge, Murisho Rukundakuvuga, Odilo Iradukunda, Amani Inkotanyi, Suleiman Niyitanga, Petit Yesashimwe and Hassan Nshimiyimana who will play in the 12-13 age category. The 14-15 age category comprises of Abouba Bashunga, Ibrahim Shyaka, Asumani Mbonigaba, Musa Amitha, Nsengiyumva Sadi Habaguhirwa, Halide Muhire, Djuma Habiyajare, Shaban Ndayishimiye and Djasiri Nsabimana. The athletes, who will feature in long distance running, include Kauthara Niyitunganye, Emile Mpawenimana, Nicola Ngabo and Jacqueline Nyiransengiyumva. The Olympafrica is a project run by the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa to help communities and less privileged athletes. The tournament will attract teams from Rwanda, Uganda, Zanzibar hosts Burundi. Ends
