Rwanda Energy Group (REG) basketball team are chasing the signing of US-based Adonis Filer in an attempt to bring him back to the club ahead of the 2023 Basketball Africa League which tips off on March 11 in Dakar, Senegal. In November last year, Adonis agreed a short-term deal to play for Burundian-side Urunani in Basketball Africa league qualifiers but later left the club after failing to secure the ticket to the BAL 2023. “I am a free agent now; I have not signed with any team. REG is among the clubs that my agent is holding talks with,” Adonis said. “I appreciate the teams that are showing interest and their offers. My decision will be made soon,” the point guard added. Adonis was a key figure during REG’s BAL endeavors last season, contributing a higher number of assists during the tournament, in addition to scoring and dictating the play. One of the great games he played during the BAL was against AS Sale where he not only scored REG with 14 points, but also established a new BAL record with 14 assists. Adonis is a familiar name in the Rwandan basketball circle, especially in 2020 when he played for the Patriots, putting up a good display after which he was summoned to the National Basketball team for the second round of the 2021 Afrobasket qualifiers.
