League results APR 1-0 Atraco Mukura 1-3 Rayon Sport Kibuye 0-1 Electrogaz Etincelles 0-0 Marines AS Kigali 3-0 Police Yesterday Kiyovu 2-0 Military APR midfielder Jean Baptista Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi believes that the 1-0 victory over rivals Atraco Fc on Saturday means that the champions are back in the title race. A seventh minute goal from Kabange Twite gave the military side their first straight win in three attempts following two back to back draws against lesser oppositions. Playing at bumpy Mironko ground, which ironically happens to be APR’s training ground, the ‘home’ side used their full knowledge of the uneven surface to dominate their opponents. Atraco are known for their ground ‘free-flowing’ football but the Mironko surface couldn’t allow them play to the normal game, something that seemed to work for APR. After the win, the first for APR over Atraco in the league in three attempts, Mugiraneza admitted, This victory (over Atraco) means that we are back in business and ready to retain our (league) title. We are now determined to earn maximum points from all our remaining fixtures. Things are beginning to look good for us, morale is high as ever, the entire camp is looking forward to winning the title, the off-season signing from Kiyovu stated. Jean Marie Ntagwabira’s side went into the game as slight favorites having won their opening five fixtures. The nine-time league champions had won three and drawn two before Saturday and had not beaten their rivals in the league under Andy Mfutila. APR’s victory took them third place on the league table with 14 points, one behind Atraco who, despite losing still lead the table with 15 points, at least before Kiyovu’s game against Military on Sunday. Rayon Sports continued to climb the table with a deserved 3-1 victory away to Mukura at Huye stadium, their second in a row since Raoul Shungu took over as head coach. Defender Bonaventure Hategikimana, midfielder Albert Nyumbayire and striker Jimmy Gatete were on target for the blues while Likit Mikano scored the consolation for the hosts. Rayon climbed to fifth position with ten points with Mukura falling from third to fourth with twelve. AS Kigali defeated Police 3-0 at Mumena stadium to remain sixth with ten points, level with Rayon but with an inferior goal difference. Pappy Mukunzi opened the score for Jean Baptist Kayiranga’s side before Elvis Irankunda added a brace. The defeat leaves Police in seventh spot with six points. In Kibuye, Electrogaz defied odds to beat the home side 0-1 courtesy of Saidi Mugisha second half gleaming strike from 25 yards. The shock win moved the league debutants to seventh spot with six points, level with struggling Police. Also on Saturday, the Gisenyi derby between Marines and Etincelles ended goalless Meanwhile, SC Kiyovu took control of the national league table with eighteen points after defeating Military 2-0 at Mumena stadium yesterday. Bizimana Didier and Meddie Kagera scored for Kiyovu.
