Is fornication outdated?

Fornication is voluntary sexual intercourse between a man and woman who are not married to each other. For decades, fornication was regarded as an abomination to the family of the person committed it and to the whole community. The cultural perspective is that a lady or a gentleman could not at any single day try to have sex before they get married According to Catherine Uwimana, a restaurant owner in Nyabugogo, “During our good days, one could not even think of anything like having sex before one got married because it could be a shame that one brought upon the family hence attacking curse. “While Planning to get married to someone, numerous tests were done to make sure the couple had never had sex. Virginity was highly respected most especially for the girls, therefore partenal aunt were the one who tested the girls to make sure they were as ‘holy as a temple’ hence married off,” Theophile Kamali explains “Fornicating is way of running away from responsibilities because whatever they’re supposed to do within marriage they do outside marriage and can never think of legally tying the knot.” Kamali stresses According to Uwera Annet, having sex before marriage makes you lose respect, particularly the ladies. “Your future husband can never fully trust you if he discovers that you were sleeping around. Some men just want to use ladies yet they don’t love them. Men are ever demanding once you do it, they will continue to use you and then drop you like a potatoes at the end of the day,” Uwera explains For today’s generation fornicating is a tool used to determine their lifetime partners while others regard it as mockery.
