EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — Alex Semarinyota has resigned his position as the coordinator of Umutara Community Resources and Infrastructure Development project (UCRIDP). The reasons for his resignation were not clear but sources intimated to The New Times that he resigned because of poor working relations with district authorities of Kayonza, Gatsibo and Nyagatare, where the multimillion project operates. Several efforts to contact him were futile as he could not answer his mobile telephone; and by press time he had not returned our calls. Even efforts to contact area district authorities were futile by press time. However, a member of staff dismissed the claims saying Semarinyota was going to pursue further studies. The man is just going for further studies in German. We don’t know whether he fell out with his bosses but as far as I know, he’s a very hardworking man backed up with his spirit of integrity. We are waiting for a new boss any time, one staff said. Mid last year, Semarinyota had misunderstandings with project funders who asked for his sacking but the government reinstated him after resolving their differences. UCRIDP is a 10-year program under the Ministry of local government. It is divided into three phases from 2001-2011 meant to activate an equitable process of economic, human and institutional development; consistent with mobilisation and efficient use of human and natural resources in the former Umutara province-now Eastern province. The program is funded by two international agencies: International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and (OPEC). Ends
