Beef escalated, as musician Kim Kizito departed from Just Family to pursue a solo music career. Just Family is a local musical group formed in 2006 initially composed of four youngsters, Kim Kizito, Bahati, Jimmy and Radjab. Speaking to The New Times, the husky-voiced singer said he had always wanted to quit the group and focus on a solo career, but was, this time, prompted by the manager of the group, Henry Joe. “I didn’t like his attitude towards me. He wanted to separate us so that he could easily achieve his goal,” the furious Kizito said. “He wasn’t cooperating and every time we worked on a commercial project, he put his interests first.” After struggling for five years to make their mark on the Rwanda music scene, Just Family, an Afro dancehall music group had started to rock. Recently, the group released an album dubbed ‘Turiho’, proving to skeptics who considered them non-starters wrong. Very much aware of his rights, Kizito has opted to go solo and vows to release his first solo track in two-week’s time. From the onset, it is apparent that some managers exploit their singers’ ignorance with regard to their rights. It is every artist’s right to know what is good for them. Otherwise managers will continue treating them like stepping stones towards their own success. RumoursKizito has dismissed rumours that he was fired from the group due to indiscipline. “No one fired me. In any case, I resigned because I couldn’t continue working with Henry,” Kizito said. Ends
