Jean Baptiste Habyalimana is the Executive Secretary of the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC). Below is how he takes on his typical working day;I wake-up at about 5:30a.m. I listen to the early morning news on various radio stations as I also do some physical fitness exercises just in front of the house. This takes me like half an hour before I go to the bathroom. After having breakfast which comprises a glass of milk and bread, I set off for work.. By 7a.m I am in the office. I first of all use my techniques that I cannot reveal to check if my staff is in office before I start on the day’s agenda. This comprises meeting representatives of the staff from each department and attending to outsiders on appointment. I also attend to work through my secretary and this involves approving or making consultations before making certain decisions. Between 1 and 2p.m is when I have lunch. I spend the afternoon occupied with office work which includes responding to and making reports on various activities. I work until 6:30p.m when I also listen to BBC World news. I may either meet some friends or hold meetings basing on the day’s plans before heading home. By 8p.m, I am home enjoying and sharing with my family. I also get some time to read and listen to news or watch local and international channels. I have supper at about 8:30 but get to bed at 11p.m. That makes my working day. Photo G.
