Artists, showbiz personalities welcome Kagame’s inauguration and see a brighter future

The New Times’ Leisure reporter Linda Mbabazi talked to a cross section of showbiz personalities on their take on President Paul Kagame’s inauguration slated today, September 6. Pierre Kayitana, Director of Rwanda Cinema Centre/ Rwanda Film Festival Rwanda is blessed to have a President who appreciates our trade. Further still, the Government has gone out of its way to attract investors into our budding film industry. It has hosted the Fespad as a way of encouraging and inspiring the Rwandan youth to be more creative and, has variously given support to artists to pursue their careers.In a personal show of support to the artists, President Kagame visited world cultural events such as the Tribeca Film Festival in an effort to market Rwanda as a favourable film location in Africa.For the next seven years we are positive that Government support to our industry will move a notch higher.We want to see the creation of a proper policy framework that supports, encourages and coordinates cultural activities. Looking back in the previous 7 years, I must say that we have registered tremendous improvement in the entertainment sector. However, showbiz industry is still at infancy but the potential is huge especially within music and movies. Ends
