EASTERN PROVINCE BUGESERA — As schools opened last week, close to 50 students of Rwandan returnees resettled in Rweru sector, failed to begin because they lack academic reports from their former schools. They say their sudden repatriation from Tanzania could not enable them acquire their academic reports from the schools. The students mostly at ordinary level standard claim they have been rejected by head teachers whenever they try to seek enrolment. They appealed to the Ministry of Education to intervene to enable them secure their reports from Tanzania. The district director of education, Emmanuel Karemera acknowledged the problem, saying they are handling it. We have heard of this issue and we are handling it with Kicukiro District to secure them places at Kagarama secondary School. There are few Anglophone schools in Rwanda and it is what makes it quite hard since these Students have English background. he said. He said nine students have so far been admitted at the school while they negotiate with Nyarugenge district to enroll the rest at Lycee de Kigali. He said of the 46 students, 14 are supposed to join senior one and senior four; which will give them ample time to search for schools since their academic year is yet to begin. Karemera promised that those who fail to secure places in government schools would be enrolled in private schools. Ends
