Rwanda Energy Group (REG) will begin their national women’s basketball league title defense when they host University of Rwanda, Kigali Campus on Saturday, January 21, at Kepler University courts. The reigning champions stole the title from APR women BBC last season and they return with an ambition to retain although they could face stiff competition from APR once again in what promises to be a two-horse title race. Eight teams namely REG, APR, IPRC-Huye, The Hoops Rwanda, Gs Marie Reine, UR Busogo, UR-Kigali and GS Gahini. REG’s opening game against UR-Kigali is the one of four fixtures that will be played when the women’s league returns to the basketball courts over the coming weekend as per the fixture schedule released by basketball governing body (Ferwaba). In other fixtures, APR will host UR Busogo at STECOL court while The Hoops will take on GS Gahini at STECOL court, with IPRC-Huye getting set to face GS Marie Reine at their home court in Huye. After match day one, selected players will rejoin women’s national team camp to resume preparations for the forthcoming FIBA Women's AfroBasket Zone V Qualifiers that will take place from February 14-19 at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo in Kampala, Uganda.
