High-flying Lions de Fer on Saturday, January 14, beat city rivals Kigali Sharks 20-4 in Kigali to end the first round of 2022/23 Rwanda Rugby National League unbeaten. The league leaders looked unstoppable since the league started in November as no team has managed to beat them so far this season and nor did Kigali Sharks pose a test against them during Saturday's encounter at Red Cross ground in Kacyiru. At the same ground, 1000 Hills Muhanga beat Thunders 40-6 while Kamonyi Pumas, who are yet to win a single match so far this season, were beaten at home by Rusizi-based side Resilience 4-54. As it stands, Lions de Fer finished the first round of the league leading the table with 19 points, five points clear of second-placeD Thousand Hills with 14 points. Kigali Sharks sit third with 11 points while Muhanga Thunders are fourth with 10 points. Resilience are fifth with four points as Kamonyi Pumas find themselves at the bottom of the table without a single point. The league will resume in early February, instead of January 2, as earlier planned.
