Official blames Africa’s slow progress on lack of ICT

The Executive Secretary for Nyarugunga Sector Rogers Ndamage has said that one of the reasons why African countries continue to suffer from underdevelopment was the less attention they gave to science and technology. He was speaking during celebrations to usher in the New Year at the sector offices this week. He pointed out that the most successful organisations worldwide were those which have invested in science and technology. Some good examples are the Microsoft Corporation, Multi-nations which deals in IT, medicine, engineering, as well as agriculture. They have all succeeded because they realised that science and technology was an indispensable component in achieving financial supremacy, he stated. Rwanda and elsewhere in Africa have generally concentrated on foreign aid which makes us vulnerable to manipulation from developed countries, Ndamage indicated. The sector official added that it was generally due to the failure of African leadership to study the reasons why other countries are successful economically that makes them lag behind Ndamage further said that in Africa, professionals are frustrated due to poor remuneration and are thus forced to look for greener pastures in developed countries. He said the brain-drain comes about because western countries have more attractive packages, especially in science and technology. Ends
