Cricket friendly Abakambwe 193/9Conservatives 88/10Abakambwe won by 105 runs IT is about time the British Conservatives revised their strategy if they are to break their jinx against the seemingly undisputable Abakambwe (Kinyarwanda word for Rwanda’s cricket old-timers) formerly referred to as Abagurusi. Yesterday, Abakambwe registered a massive 105-run victory in the traditional cricket friendly which is held annually. Julius Mbaraga led Abakamwe’s scoring wheels with a well crafted 58runs to claim the man of the match award. Sonia Uwimana picked three wickets to snatch the best bowler’s gong while Alby Shale’s entertaining 39-run knock was enough to gift him the best-batsman’s accolade. The British Conservative team was made of members of the Umubano project, which is a charity founded by members of the British Conservative party a.k.a torries. The project which is in its fourth year in Rwanda has done a lot of work in the Education, Health, business and sports sectors. While the contingent’s head Stephen Crabb (Conservative MP) was disappointed by the defeat, he was happy with the progress of the project. “A lot has been done over the last three years and we want to continue with the good work. It has been an amazing experience,” he said. Ends
