It’s a new beginning for this multitalented star Aline Gahongaire. Besides music, local gospel diva Aline Gahongaire wants to take her passion for fashion to greater heights. Heads turn everywhere Gahongaire passes, not because she is famous, she simply stands out from the crowd. No doubt, she is among the most famous gospel and highly respected stylish artists in our local entertainment industry. Only a few months ago, Gahongaire, whose single ‘Hari impavu pe’, one of the most popular songs on radio and TV, bagged the Best Female Gospel Musician Award at the Salax Awards 2009 and another during the Talanta Awards in Nairobi. On and offstage, Gahongaire blends modern and tradition in her attire that has probably contributed to her brand as a music and fashion sensation. Dressed in a traditional blue dress, a brown top, matched with blue big earrings and spotting perfect makeup, it gives you a sense of tradition and rich culture that imbues her personality. Gahongaire, 23, is tall, brown and walks with a swagger of confidence that gives a huge sense of presence but retains an unexpected ability to roll into a conversation and keep it going. Despite the sophistication about her and the stardom on the gospel platform, Gahongaire describes herself as a simple girl, born in Gitarama but raised in Kigali. “I was born in Gitarama but I never grew up from there,” she says to emphasise her urban background. She is a daughter to Cyrus Majambere and Umulisa Chantal, and the third in the family of five children, but now three (two passed away). She grew up in a humble background with a solid Christian base and her parents struggled to give her and her siblings everything they needed in life. Determination According to Gahongaire, her grandmother’s inspiration and love have kept her in music and focus on gospel music. “She was a great musician and used to help me to develop my talent and interest into music,” Gahongaire recalls. Winning two gospel awards, performing at important social and political events, in the country and in the region for a number of times, plus three albums under the belt can be quite a high for any musician. But Gahongaire is taking it all in her stride, she is even aiming higher. “I’m working on two albums and videos to be released in December. Also, I’m organising a festival for children to be held around the same month.” Known for her dynamic and inspiring songs, Gahongayire is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, fashion designer and actress. She is famous in the television soap opera ‘Ikigeragezo cy’ubuzima.” She likes going out with her friends, and loves reading, but Gahongayire confesses that watching TV is not her hobby. Ends
