Celebrations as Kagame campaigns in Nyanza

NYANZA - When Paul Kagame, the RPF’s Presidential candidate for the August 9, presidential elections arrived in Nyanza District, at about 4.20 p.m., for his third campaign stop of the day, he found more than 100,000 party supporters fired-up, dancing and singing party songs at the top of their voices. The candidate had earlier held rallies in Nyamagabe and Huye Districts. Clad in RPF branded T-shirts and caps, party supporters, who carried banners with Tora Kagame” (vote for Kagame), continuously cheered as he addressed them in an extraordinary show of support. In his speech, Kagame said that the big turnout and the excitement show that the people of Nyanza have already made the decision on who they will vote for. The candidate went on to promise that if voted into office, Nyanza District will be host to a state-of-the-art stadium, drawing a thunderous applause from the enthusiastic crowd. Sharon Tumusime, a Nyanza resident, shared her experience about how she pulled herself out of poverty, from being a beggar to an investor. “Authorities had listed me as a very vulnerable person in need of urgent help. One day I decided to take advantage of RPF policies and drafted a Rwf 30,000 business proposal for secretarial services which was funded,” she said. “I managed to save Rwf 500,000 from the profits and used the money to acquire a loan of Rwf 1.5m that I invested. I managed to build my own house, went back to school and acquired a degree in management”. Tumusime, a disabled mother in a wheelchair, added that she now plans to purchase a car. The rally in Nyanza marked the end of the second week of Kagame’s campaign trail. The RPF candidate will start the final campaign week, on Sunday, with a rally in Bugesera District in the Eastern Province. Ends
