University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) will relocate from its current site in Nyarugenge District to Masaka Hospital in Kicukiro District. Dr Tharcisse Mpunga, the director general of CHUK, confirmed the relocation plans but mentioned that details are being handled by the Ministry of Health. “The hospital is very old and needs deep renovation and extension as it was built in the 20s. Additionally, considering the current neighbourhood, the location is inappropriate,” said Zachee Iyakaremye, Permanent Secretary of the Rwanda Ministry of Health. Iyakaremye said that the hospital’s upgrade is courtesy of a grant from the Chinese government given the strong partnership between the two countries.
