RUSIZI - Over 50 women supporters of Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) in Kamembe Sector, Rusizi District, yesterday vowed to rally support for party candidate Paul Kagame. The group, among them women leaders drawn from Avega Agahozo, various cooperative societies and the National Council for Women, made the resolution at a meeting to prepare for the forth coming presidential campaigns that kicked off yesterday. The women discussed campaign strategies and agreed to conduct peaceful campaigns, and behave responsibly, so as not to breach the election law. “We have reviewed the campaign plan for our candidate and came up with more strategies on how to get more voters,” said Alice Batamuliza, the vice chairperson of the party in the sector. According to their plan, each member will visit at least 10 homes in her neighbourhood to solicit for votes, while highlighting RPF past achievements. They also agreed to step up voter education to achieve high voter turn-up on August 9, the voting day.“We aim at a free and fair election and comfortable victory,” added Batamuliza. The group outlined freedom of expression and speech for women, end to gender based violence, increased access to health services and decline in infant mortality rate, among the party’s achievements. Viateur Nduwayo, the Kamembe Sector Executive Secretary, observed that women have influence on many voters. “You have the influence on our teenagers, your husbands and neighbours, than the men,” said Nduwayo.Jeanne Nyirandayisenga, of the National Women Council in Kamembe Sector, said they would ensure a clean environment at all designated polling stations.
