THE management of Kicukiro District over the weekend officially opened the new offices of Gahanga Sector which were constructed at a cost of Rwf33m. The ceremony which was presided over by the District Mayor, Paul Jules Ndamage, also saw the inauguration of clean water in the sector and a donation of 20 Friesian cows to the most vulnerable residents in the area. According to Ndamage, construction of the sector offices was funded through the Common Development Fund (CDF) while the clean water was extended to the sector by Rwanda Water and Sanitary Corporation (RWASCO) at a total sum of Rwf91.8m. “You should always maintain the water facility we have inaugurated today because it’s very expensive to install water pipes and taps in any area,” Ndamage said. He also called upon the residents to participate in the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled for August 9 and encouraged them to maintain peace and discipline during and after the elections. Ndamage further urged them to fight against poverty in the sector through hard work and to fully embrace government programmes. The Sector Executive Secretary, Jean Damascene Niyitegeka said: “We have been operating from a very small and old house which hampered our activities and on behalf of the management of sector; I commend the government for the gesture.” Ends
