RDF brings water to 40,000

RULINDO - As part of the ongoing Army Week, members of the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF), yesterday, inaugurated a water supply system at Masoro sector, Rulindo District in the Northern Province. The projrect will supply clean water to over 40,000 residents of Masoro , Ntabana and Murambi in Rulindo District as well as Jabana Sector in Gasabo District. “This is a developmental initiative that will help the population to access clean water because they have been struggling to get water,” said Lt Gen Charles Kayonga, the Chief of Defence Staff. He added thatthought the army’s priority is to maintain security, helping the population to move forward is also part of their responsibilities. Kayonga urged the residents of Rulindo District who had turned up for the event to engage themselves in developmental activities in order to improve their standards of living. Justus Kangwangye, the Mayor of Rulindo District, hailed the RDF for its support saying that the area has experienced water scarcity for many years. He added that a jerrycan of water used to cost 300 francs and that this had made life difficult for the people in the past. Kangwangye told the residents that the army liberated the country from the bad regime but they are also determined to liberate Rwandans from social problems. Celestin Safari, one of the residents, said that they have been suffering to get water because Rwf 300 per jerry can of water was too high a price. “Sometimes we used to spend two days without water for domestic use,” he said. “We are very excited to get water in this area and this shows how the government is determined to improve the standards of living of the population.” Ends
