Is virginity Overrated?

To some extentWasn’t it just wonderful back then when parents locked their kids up and only let them out of the house when they were getting married? To be perfectly honest, I’m not sure when exactly this time was but I do know girls back then were tightly guarded. Virginity is a huge issue when it comes to girls and I wonder why. Boys should be serious about it too. Parents often worry about the girl because she can get pregnant. But what they forget or don’t seem to be so worried about is the boy who gets a girl pregnant. Back in the day girls were taught to save themselves for marriage. That no man would want to marry a non-virgin. I’m really not sure how true that was. In this day and age, kids are more aware of what is going on and they do know that if you have unprotected sex you can get pregnant or worse die. But they also know that if they use a condom they won’t get diseases or unwanted pregnancies. What these kids are being schooled is to stick to the old way of no sex before marriage. Whereas that is great we need to understand that finding a needle in a haystack is mush easier than finding virgins in schools. Please do not get me wrong because I’m sure there are still some left but if we can just be honest with ourselves, kids these days find being a virgin literally embarrassing. They are so desperate to lose it that they will sleep with anyone or anything. If they fail they’ll at least lie about it. Parents I’m sure would want their kids to be virgins for life. It’s hard for any parent to know that their kid is sexually active but instead of being in denial and ignoring the issue, sit them down and talk to them about being safe. It is better than not talking at all. Girls know for a fact that the whole ‘you won’t get a man to marry you’ story is nothing but a myth. How many stories do we hear of women with a truck load of kids meeting a guy and then getting married? The only problem is the ones who want to get rid of their virginity before they are even adults. At 17 and below you have no business thinking about sex. But if you are at an age that is mature and responsible it is just ridiculous to wait till you’re 40 to have sex, simply because you are saving yourself for marriage. Supposing things do not work out as planned and no wedding bells come your way, what next? It is admirable to meet such a person but in all honesty very few would want to be in hisher shoes! People talk of waiting to get married as though everyone is destined for that. Sure, it shouldn’t stop it from being encouraged but why do they condemn the ones that weren’t so lucky. Everything happens for a reason. There’s a reason why some people die virgins and others don’t remember being one. Virginity was an issue then when girls were literally banned from their villages for disgracing the family. Don’t pass off the chance to talk to your child about sex. It’s better to be safe than sorry because truth be told kids these days find virginity no more important than a science test is to an arts student. canzi83@yahoo.co.uk
