EASTERN PROVINCE KAYONZA — In line with the government’s program of economic revolution, youth in Kayonza have formed a cooperative society to improve their livelihoods.The cooperative named Impindura Matwara Murubyiruko (economic revolution) was formed by about 70 middle-aged youth hailing from Bwiza Cell in Mukarange Sector. “After participating in different developmental activities, including building a four classroom block for nursery children, the youth have decided to form a cooperative that will bring them together to work for development of their area,” Emmanuel Rwagasana, the village leader said during the inauguration ceremony recently.Rwagasana enumerated their achievements as helping residents register for health insurance, improved sanitation and improved school enrolment. He also noted that participation in community work-Umuganda- had registered high attendance last year. He further said that due to cooperation among residents all Gacaca cases were concluded last year, attracting prolonged cheering from the audience. He revealed that there were 56 exotic cows in his village. Kimanuka Musonera, the Sector leader hailed the efforts of the youth and called on neighboring Cell leaders to encourage youth in their localities to emulate their colleagues.Anitha Umutesi, the Vice Mayor in charge of social affairs pointed out that it only required strong zeal to influence change among the youth. She asked residents to engage in the economic revolution saying it is one way to alleviate poverty and attain development. She also urged residents to specialize in economic activities that are profitable but suitable to their area.Ends
