EASTERN PROVINCE NYAGATARE — A school head teacher was fired this week for alleged incompetence and misallocation of capitation grants.Tharacis Kayihura, the headmaster of Rugendo primary school in Nyagatare Sector, was dismissed from his job because he was reportedly caught snitching school food and misappropriated funds meant for rehabilitating the school. “The man no longer qualifies to provide education since his conduct is questionable; because it was established that he got involved in stealing school food on several occasions,” Geoffrey Mushaija, the Sector leader said. “Can you believe I have documents where he signed asking for pardon when caught with some portions of food stuffs meant for students?” he asked. Mushaija said that since the school management committee had lost confidence in the headmaster, there was no option but to suspend him pending district intervention. Other factors that acted against Kayihura, raised at a meeting of parents with local leaders include incompetent, which has allegedly affected school performance over time. But theft was more emphasised. “A man who was caught in broad day light stealing food stuffs can’t be an exemplary leader because his morals are questionable.” “Which type of education is he offering?” “He tarnished his image which can’t be tolerated by the Parents and teachers’ committee and the local leaders,” an emotional parent said. Kayihura is also accused of transferring, sacking, and recruiting staff based on his self interests. This is the second head teacher to be fired from his job in the Sector in less than a week. The first, Alphonsine Musabyezu, the headmistress of Gakirage primary school having been sacked last weekend over Genocide ideology. Ends
