National Museum opens branch in Kanombe

AS part of bringing back Rwanda’s cultural, social and economic heritage that used to characterise fashion in the country to the limelight, the National Museums Friday opened an exhibition branch at the former State House in Kanombe. Officiating at the launch, Emmanuel Bugingo, the Managing Director of FESPAD (Pan African Dance Festival) who was representing the Minister of Culture, said that the photo exhibition shows the evolution of fashion in Rwanda from 1900 to 1960. “Through the exhibition, we would like to raise public awareness, targeting constant and sustainable collaboration. This partnership between the museum and the public will be a testimony for active and productive interaction from all sides,” he said. He added that fashion in Rwanda has always been characterised by clothing, finery and hairstyle. “This exhibition demonstrates our rich culture. We should always be proud of it,” he said. Bugingo called upon the public to visit the museum so that they can see how the Rwandans used to in ancient times.According to Jean Butoto, the officer in charge of the Kanombe Museum, the exhibition is part of promoting the Rwanda’s cultural heritage. “We do acknowledge that we have not finished exploring all archives all over the country. In the future, we shall start considering earlier periods.” Ends
