KAYONZA- 511 Brigade of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) yesterday launched a project to construct 20 houses worth Rwf 100m in Nyagatovu village in Kayonza District. The project is part of activities organized countrywide for the second phase of the Army Week that began yesterday. Grace Mukandoli, the Executive Secretary of Mukarange Sector, commended the RDF for this gesture, saying that it will boost the welfare of vulnerable residents. She said that the target is to construct 150 houses. “This is great service from the RDF…they are supplementing our plans,” she said. “The estimated value of each house is Rwf 5 million…you can imagine if RDF completes 20 houses, it will have saved Rwf 100million in total,” she added. Laurent Rutsinduka, one of the prospective beneficiaries, said that the construction will solve their shelter challenges. “I can see a bright future for most of us who had failed to build houses for ourselves. We indeed thank the government for this initiative to care for the needy in our communities,” he noted. Nyagatove village, just like its neighbour Kitazigurwa, are some of the areas identified for model settlements in the districts of Rwamagana and Kayonza respectively. Authorities say upon completion of the housing project, residents will be provided with other social amenities like schools and health centres. Ends
