WESTERN PROVINCE RUSIZI — The district director of education Charles Ntibaziyaremye, has appealed to parents and other concerned residents not to neglect street children.He was speaking at a get-together ceremony for some former street children in Rusizi and residents, at Centre des Jeunes Garuka in Gihundwe sector.“I urge you as concerned parents and residents who are here to always render any support to street children in the region because children are part of the major economic resources which our country has,” Ntibaziyaremye urged.He also asked residents to sensitize children who are still living on streets to leave street-life, and go back to schools; in order to live a bright future.Parents were also asked to inculcate discipline among the children. It was observed that many children end up on the streets to escape harsh treatment from their parents.There are over 295 children at Centre des Jeunes Garuka that were picked from various streets in the district. The children were enrolled in schools; 11 of them are in secondary schools, 34 in vocational training schools and others in primary schools.Christopher Twizeyimana, who spoke on behalf of the former street children, expressed gratitude to their care takers and the government for resettling them.He appealed for continued support to enable them attain education.Ends
