Minister urges Youth to take lead in country’s development

KIGALI - THE Minister of Youth, Protais Mitari has urged the youth to engage in voluntary services that will enhance the development of the country. He made the remarks yesterday while officiating at the launch of the “Youth week” at Gikondo Industrial park where the youth marked the celebration by clearing bushes in the area. “Young people should take the lead by being the drivers of the country’s development and engage in productive activities aimed at developing them and the nation,” he said. Minister Mitali called upon the youth to continue playing a big role towards promoting unity and reconciliation and fight against Genocide ideology. The Minister also urged the youth to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS, which is spreading faster in young people, saying that it continues to affect productive people who are the future leaders of the country. He added that his ministry is working tirelessly to ensure that issues relating to young people are addressed to ensure that they become responsible citizens in future. Mitari underscored that youth should live by example by preserving and protecting the environment as well as sensitise their colleagues in science and technology. “Youth Week also serves to renew the pledge to support young people because sustainability is the most promising path forward, and the youth can lead the way,” he said.Kigali City Council vice Mayor, Jeanne d’Arc Gakuba, thanked the youth for playing a key role by clearing the bushes around Gikondo Industrial park. The “youth week” which runs for three weeks marks 10 years since Rwanda National Youth Council (RNYC) was formed. Ends
