Governor addresses residents’ problems

GICUMBI - Governor of Northern Province, Aimé Bosenibamwe, warned Gicumbi district residents against entertaining negative propaganda, as he addressed their problems at the district stadium on Tuesday. “Negative propaganda is aimed at causing insecurity in the country and diverting residents from engaging in income generating activities,” he said. He further said those who spread harmful rumors aimed at dividing Rwandans along ethnic lines are enemies of unity and development. Residents who turned up for the meeting were each given time to air their personal problems. The problems raised ranged from domestic disputes, land wrangles and local administrative matters. Bosenibamwe and other leaders present settled most of the residents’ pressing problems on the spot. However, disputes of a legal nature were referred to the courts of law for final decisions. Mayor Bonane Nyangezi, called on residents to work closely with the local and district leaders to achieve socio-economic prosperity. “Leaders are servants of the people, which is why you should liaise with them to achieve economic development,” said Nyangezi. Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) division commander, Brig. General Alex Kagame called on residents to closely work with RDF to solve social and economic problems such as diseases and poverty. He further said RDF shall continue providing free eye treatment to residents in the district, to guarantee health for all. The Regional Police commander, Chief Superintendent Peter Hodari, cautioned Gicumbi residents against the consumption and trafficking of illicit alcoholic drinks, commonly referred to as ‘Kanyanga’. “Consumption of Kanyanga is harmful to one’s health and is the root cause of domestic violence,” said Hodari, urging residents to rally behind community policing committees to stem crimes in the district.
