RnB artiste, The Ben, was the night’s big winner, taking home the Best male award as well as that of RnB musician of the year 2009 at Rwanda’s premier Salax Awards on Friday. Last year’s major winner, Tom Close, didn’t fare badly as he won the Album of the Year and Video of the Year awards. Best new artiste was Meddy, and like it was expected, his hit single “Amayobera”, was voted song of the year. The night which had a sell-out crowd, was graced by Sports and Culture Minister, Joseph Habineza, and Miss Rwanda 2009, Grace Bahati. In his speech, the minister advised musicians to respect their profession and not think that they have reached the peak of their careers. This was after most of the nominees and those who where supposed to perform arrived late for the function. There were also performances by Miss Jojo, The Ben, Tom Close, Rozy, and Lil Ngabo and many others. Tthough gospel musician, Aline Gahongayire (Best Gospel Artiste), with producer Pastor P made the best performance of the night, RnB musician Meddy shocked both the organizers and his fans when he turned down his chance to perform. The second edition of Salax Awards was organized by Ikirezi Group and the Ministry of Sports and Culture-MISPOC. Ends
