A new cartoon ‘Nabonye Inshuti’ (‘I got a friend’) is now available for sale at Librairie Ikirezi in Kigali’s city centre. The animated-adventure was released last Friday May 21 by Maurice Nkundimana. According to Nkundimana, ‘Nabonye Inshuti’ is the title of the film and also the title of the children’s song on the DVD. “The song in the film is interpreted by two kids. It targets the young audience, as well as their parents,” Nkundimana said, “The film contains a message of non-discrimination.” Nkundimana, who first published his debut animated film ‘Abana twirinde abadushuka’ in 2007, is a digital sketch artist. He writes scripts, does the animations, voice synchronization and video editing. He ventured into film in 2004, after realising that there was lack of enough cartoons and films for young children broadcast on Rwanda Television. “There only a few films on RTV dedicated to young viewers and many of them are in foreign languages, which hinder ordinary Rwandan children from enjoying the programmes,” Nkundimana told The New Times.
