The national schools’ champions, Groupe Scolaire de Parent will face Kenya’s St. Anthony in the second match of the football championship in Kenya. Rwanda will have eight representatives in this year’s edition of the regional Schools’ Championship due to start in Kisumu, Kenya over the weekend. Regional schools football defending champions St Mary’s Kitende from Uganda will face Kenya’s Kakamega High in the opening match on Saturday. Both are drawn in pool A with another Ugandan side Mulusa SS and Tanzania’s Makongo. Groupe Scolaire de parent is in pool B with Kenya’s St. Anthony, Kisumu Day and Masaka SS from Uganda. Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association conducted the draws in Kisumu on Monday and the championship is set to attract 23 teams. Uganda is sending 23 teams, Rwanda eight, Tanzania 12, Burundi six and Zanzibar four teams. All participating schools are expected to arrive at the lakeside town on Saturday and the championship starts on Sunday at midday with a football opening match between the defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende from Uganda and Kakamega High. In girl’s football Kenya’s defending football title; Wiyeeta is in, Pool A with Masaka from Uganda and Itigo SS of Kenya. Pool B has Kenya’s Archbishop Njenga, Kawempe SS of Uganda and Groupe Aspej from Rwanda. In boy’s basketball, Pool A; Laiser Hill (Kenya), St Augustine Academy (Burundi) and Uganda’s Crane SS. Pool B; College Inyemeramihigo (Rwanda), Maseno (Kenya), Kibuli (Uganda) and Makongo (Tanzania). In Girls’ basketball, Pool A- Mombasa GS (Kenya), Nabisusa (Uganda) and College Inyemeramihigo (Rwanda). Pool B- Aped Rwaza (Rwanda) Tigoi GS (Kenya) and Kibuli SS (Uganda).In boy’s volleyball, Pool A- GS Officiel de Butare (Rwanda) Kitende SS (Uganda), Lugazi SS (Uganda) and Malava (Tanzania). Pool B- Cheptil (Kenya), Katikamu SS (Uganda) and St Joseph Muhanga (Rwanda). Girls’ volleyball: Lugulu (Kenya), Katikamu (Uganda), GS St Joseph Muhanga (Rwanda), Cheptil (Kenya) and Brethren College (Uganda).These will play in a league format.
