KIGALI - The government will, on Friday, officially begin issuing Identity Cards to 20,000 refugees in Rwanda, Innocent Ngango, the head of the National Refugee Commission, has said. He said that everything was ready people above 16 years, and have been in the country for the last five years will be issued electronic cards similar to the National Identity Cards. “We will begin the launch in Kigali and we already have the IDs to use at the launch,” Ngango said. The exercise will later extend to the refugee camps of Kiziba in Karongi district, Gihembe in Gicumbi district and Nyabiheke in Gatsibo district. Ngango said that originally, refugees were using their ration cards for identification. The project is estimated to cost $104,190 (Rwf59.4 million). Ends
