Prizes are up for grabs for budding dancers ahead of the grand finale of Urutozi Challenge Dance competition’ slated Friday, December 30 at Club Rafiki. Organised by Urutozi Gakondo, the contest is part of the fashion house’s move to not only support dance among local choreography talents but also promote the best of its Made in Rwanda fashion products designed by its own designers. Urutozi’s growth on the local fashion scene has been enjoying an incredible rise since its inception in 2020 as its collections continue to attract the attention of fashion enthusiasts in Kigali. “Dance has a special place in both music and fashion but it doesn't have the value it deserves in our industry. We want to relive our dance and bring it back to the heart of Rwandan entertainment...we have a lot in store to showcase during the finale,” said Jack B, brand ambassador of Urutozi Gakondo. Seven dance groups from Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and Kenya are expected to showcase their talent ahead of the grand finale. They will each have a three-minute dance for Master KG’s song ‘Wayawaya’ before adding an extra dance for the song that they rehearsed. A panel of judges comprising veteran dancers Jack B, Tizzo and Olvis (both from Active) and Joxy, will be judging each dance group during the finale before announcing the winners. The overall winner of the Urutozi Challenge Dance contest will walk away with Rwf500,000 while the first and second runners-up will be rewarded cash prizes of Rwf300,000 and Rwf200,000 respectively. The finale will be headlined by rapper Bushali while DJs Toxxyk and Diallo will entertain revelers with the best music selections from their decks. There will also be a dance showcase from Kigali’s famous dance crews Good Guys and Bad Boys from which Jack B, Tizzo and Olvis danced for quite some years before they were off from the game. Entrance at the grand finale is open to the public and free of charge.
