Kagame Cup Yesterday’s results Simba 0-1 SofapakaURA 0-4 Atraco THOSE who had counted off Atraco after defeat against Simba should reconsider. The Kagame Cup defending champions yesterday proved that they are not about to let go of their trophy after a comprehensive 4-0 annihilation of Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) at Nyamirambo’s Regional stadium. Dady Birori led the side’s charge with a hat-trick while Jabir Mutarambirwa added the icing on the cake with a fourth strike. Birori, who is now joint-second on the top scorers’ chart, opened his account on the 7th minute after pouncing onto a clever through pass from Alimasi Kadogo. URA dictated play there after but could not break Atraco’s back line. Mike Sserumaga and Samuel Mubiru came close to leveling matters on the 22nd and 25th minute but wasted their chances. Ten minutes later, Birori controlled a long pass from Ismail Habumugisha to double Atraco’s lead. Despite the resounding win, Coach Sam Timbe noted that there is still work to be done in defence. “The guys deserve a round of applause for the win. But we need to tighten our defence for the upcoming games,” the Ugandan tactician said. While URA may be out following back to back defeats against Atraco and Kenya’s Sofapaka, the team coach Alex Isabirye has warned Simba not to expect an easy ride when the two sides lock horns tomorrow. “We could be out of the contest but we still have a game to play and are taking it serious,” the youthful coach said.Earlier in the day, Sofapaka became the third side to storm the last eight (after Group A heavyweights APR and TP Mazembe) following a hard fought 1-0 win over Tanzania’s Simba. Sofapaka coach Sam Simbwa has now conceded that he would want to avoid the pair in the quarter finals which start Monday. “They have arguably the toughest in the tournament and I wouldn’t want to face them early on in the tournament,” the former Atraco coach noted. Sofapaka top group C with six points; Atraco and Simba have three points each while URA are still looking for their first points of the tournament. Ends
