Women’s involvement is vital in Rwanda

Editor, I completely agree with what the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame said on Monday during the opening ceremony the ‘International Forum on the Role of Leadership in Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment’. He said that, “empowering women and ensuring gender equality ultimately enriches communities and entire nations. This is something that we as Rwandans understood long before gender equality became fashionable or the catch-phrase in development discourse.” I agree 100 percent with this note. Fine tuning the role of women in Rwanda has seen miraculous results in the development process. People need not look far to see what I mean. Look at women representation on national policy implementation and how it trickles down to grass root levels. There is commendable progress in all the sectors of the economy, from infrastructure, to education, ICT, agriculture, tourism, the police, army, the public and private sectors; the list endlessly goes on. Holding such a major conference is an indication that the world has its eyes on Rwanda and that different key players are ready and eager to partake in the country’s progress. Kigali
