NORTHERN PROVINCE Musanze — The Rwandan youth community has been urged to practice speaking fluent Kinyarwanda as a way of preserving Rwanda culture and forming a common Rwandan bond of identity.This was revealed during the celebrations to mark the international native language day which was held in Musanze district, Northern Province. Speaking during the function, the National Coordinator of the Association Inteko Izirikana Chrisigome Buchagu said that kinyarwanda which is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa is a rich and educative language which must be treasured. He said that culture defines Rwandan identity and the common language which is a bracket of culture should be spoken well and protected from ‘contamination’Following the poem writing competitions, ten people were rewarded with the overall best Jack Nkurunziza and Matthias Kandanga being given Frw60000 and Frw50000 respectively. Buchagu revealed that it was the fifth time Rwanda recognises the national time-honored language having been initiated by UNESCO in 1999 as the international local language day. Ends
