Some stereotypes imply that the regular bachelor is messy, unorganized and lives in a house that is stacked up with electronic toys, and gadgets. Although this may be true for some, it isn’t necessarily the case for all. Every bachelor is different. Some bachelors create time to decorate and clean their homes however, the reality is that many are too busy or too occupied to get down to it. Keep design simple and comfortable As a bachelor, the idea is to keep design as simple as possible while bringing out the most in a home to ensure that you feel comfortable at all times. How does one do this? For a start, let’s take a look at furniture. One major consideration is to use leather furniture, leather may be elegant but it is also masculine. It is hard to properly take care of your home when you are just one person, especially if you are a busy bee. So fill your home with items that are easy to look after. Leather furniture is also convenient because spills can be wiped off easily and they won’t stain the sofa as much. For a simple and inspiring atmosphere, use no more than three colours To keep your home looking simple and inspiring at the same time, stick with two or three colours, and only purchase items in those colours. A black and white scheme is very modern and masculine, and lets you incorporate another colour of your choice. Black and white can easily make your home feel cold so in order to warm it up; add a modern rug in any combination of colours to your floors. The walls are also an open canvas so consider painting it in hints of warm and bright colours. Accessories well used make a home appealing Even though the sofa may be the largest element of furniture in the living room, and the bed the largest element in the bedroom, a home is not complete without the less thought of things. Often, it’s the small things that really make a home appealing. Is your sofa looking plain, lonely and deserted? Throw a few cushions on it. A blown up quality graphic image, or a series of small ones printed off and arranged on a wall in simple glass frames will not only fill up a blank wall but will add flavor to your home. A variety of stretched canvases, each painted in alternative colours can do wonders. Take for example how green, red and brown can transform a space when arranged on a wall. Depending on how many you decide to use, you could have them arranged in a line from one end of a wall to another. Allow a decent amount of space between each hanging. Alternatively, consider first hanging up two canvases and placing another two below them to create a square that consists four canvases, each painted a different colour. Consider bringing in some floor and table lamps, in addition to making your space homey they have the tendency to show people in a much more flattering light than harsh florescent lights. Also, keep your lamp options simple that way they won’t collect too much dust, as a result they will be much easier to clean compared to intricate and elaborate ones. If you are struggling with an empty space, an area rug can easily fill it up by adding character and making it feel warm and inviting. Invest in a simple storage Storage is an essential element of a home; not just for bachelors but also for everyone. It is a good idea to invest in a storage unit that will allow you to organize all of your electronics in one place. If your storage unit looks messy, purchase one with doors on it, so you can close its doors when you have visitors. A bookshelf will allow you to be organized by minimizing the temptation to leave books all over the house. Try the following for a unique look; have a carpenter build you a narrow and tall bookshelf, with shelves of varying heights. Paint it in two alternating colours from your chosen scheme. Then, arrange on it your books and magazines. If you are an artifact lover arrange on one shelf a few of your favorites. A bachelor’s home should be a statement of masculinity.
