RUSIZI – At least 23 people died last month due to Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Rusizi district, according to a Police report. The report released on Tuesday during the launch of the Police’s GBV week, says most of the killings took place in Nzahaha and Nyakabuye sectors. Ruth Nirere, the district vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, attributed the violence to property wrangles and alcohol abuse. “The secret of having a home free of trouble is respect and love,” she counseled. Earlier this week, Police called upon Rusizi residents to join in the fight against GBV. Ends
