Kizito Mihigo (born July 25, 1981) is a Belgium based Rwandan gospel artist, music teacher and a karate martial artist. Mihigo is a survivor of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He lost his father, Augustine Bukuze, in the Genocide. “I was 12-years at the time the Genocide happened and I recall all the terror. I used to ask myself why such a tragedy happened in Rwanda, if God loves us, why did He let it happen,” Mihigo said. However, the singer says the puzzling questions inspired him, and in his recent concert in Kigali, he gave a testimony dubbed: “Believing in God after the Genocide” to show people that after the Genocide, his faith changed took a new turn. Mihigo is Christian with, deep in him, a strong aspiration to grow in faith, to see his brethren overcome earthly futilities, dissensions and fully re-unite with the Genocide perpetrators. The star hopes his music will influence Rwandans to join hands in rebuilding the country and changing its bad history.He confesses that being a Christian and an artist has helped him to grow spiritually and to be able to forgive people who participated in the Genocide. Mihigo grew up in Kibeho, Southern Province and as a youngster; he served in Church, and was influenced by its choir to venture into the gospel music industry. In 2003, Mihigo obtained a government bursary to Europe to study music, and graduated in 2008. He is now a music teacher in Belgium. He has released about 300 songs, which are being played in many Catholic Churches in Rwanda, and in Belgium where he lives. Ends
