The Rwanda Development Bank of (BRD) on Thursday donated equipment and foodstuff to children who were orphaned due to 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. The donation, which was contributed by the staff of the bank, is worth Rwf1.5 million and it included flour, beans, rice, and soap among others. According to Christine Karangwayire in charge of the bank’s investment department, the orphans of Mageregere in Nyamirambo need to be shown love and care especially during the commemoration period “We feel it is our parental obligation to support orphans and try to provide some of their daily needs,” said Karangwayire. Among other things that the bank plans to do for the survivors, is to design business plans for them that will enable orphans to generate income on a sustainable basis. Since their biggest challenge is the lack of power, Resco-Rwanda under took a power generation study worth Rwf14.3 million which the orphans have discussed about with BRD. Angelique Munganyinka, the head of the orphanage said that they were happy with the bank’s generosity. “BRD has been our friends, parents and everything we have not had in the past and very much appreciate their friendship to us,” said Munganyinka. The orphanage is home to some 69 children with 22 families which also comprises of widows. Six of them are attending university, 22 secondary school and 23 completed secondary school last year. Ends
