MUHANGA – The Muhanga district vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, Alice Uwimbabazi, has asked residents to collectively deal with trauma issues during the ongoing 16th Genocide commemoration. Uwimbabazi was addressing a handful of mourners during a memorial vigil held at Gitarama Cultural and Sports Center (CCSG) on April 7. She said, “All Rwandans today are faced with the impact of genocide and one of them is trauma. This can be manifested in various ways on anybody in this era. Therefore, we should support each other so as to deal with it.” Uwimbabazi added that the commemoration should also be a time to reflect on and be proud of the progress made over the years and each Rwandan should set personal goals to advance in life. One of the survivors, Ahidu Ndejuru said, “We have to move on with life so as to fail the plan of genocide perpetrators of seeing this country destroyed. The path of new life will depend on choices of fighting genocide ideology in our respective communities.” Ndejuru also asked the community to support survivors to address their challenges. The chairman of Ibuka in Muhanga, Eugene Karangwa, called on all residents to stand firm in the face of negative ideas and fight the existing genocide ideology. During the function, genocide movies were screened and various church choirs sang songs of hope, love and endurance. Ends
