Ndayisaba and Bosenibamwe hold joint commemoration

MUHANGA – The Governor of the Northern Province, Aimé Bosenibamwe, and his Southern Province counterpart, Fidèle Ndayisaba, held a joint Genocide commemoration at a common border linking the two provinces. Bosenibamwe and Ndayisaba met last Wednesday at Muvumba Bridge that links both provinces to honour victims of 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Ndayisaba said, “The bridge is no longer considered as a dividing line between the two zones as it was in the past where one region was considered favoured over the other, instead it has turned into a turning point of unity due to government efforts to re-unite and reconcile Rwandans.” The bridge connects Nyabinoni (ex-Nyakabanda commune) in Muhanga district and Muzo sector (ex- Ndusu commune) in Gakenke district in southern and northern provinces respectively. Both provincial leaders stressed the need to fight genocide ideology in the area and assured residents that genocide will never happen again in Rwanda. Bosenibamwe said, “Genocide should never happen again and the traces of its ideology should be erased completely.” Bishop Smargade Mbonyintege, led the requiem mass and encouraged survivors to live with hope and have faith in the resurrection and life after death of the victims. Testimonies by survivors indicated that an unknown numbers of victims were dumped in Nyabarongo river during the Genocide. The commemoration was also attended by hundreds of residents from both provinces. Ends
