Over 40 laid-off at RDB, 21 resign

Following the completion of a restructuring phase aimed at overhauling its structure, Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced that it has let go 42 of its staff in management and administration, while 21 chose to leave or seek employment elsewhere. Top positions including that of the Principal Chief Executive Officer which was being occupied by George Mulamula were scrapped while Chantal Rosette Rugamba, who was the Deputy CEO/ Tourism and Conservation resigned. RDB announced that the restructuring does not affect World Bank financed staff namely e-Rwanda, Rwanda Investment Climate Project and Doing Business. The committee, set up by cabinet which has been spearheaded by RDB’s Chief Executive Officer, John Gara, since he took over in December 2009, has finally completed the restructuring exercise after a period of one and half years since it was established. According to Gara, following last Cabinet appointments of senior management staff, RDB dully announced the rest of the structure and the staff that would be retained. “This new structure has reshaped the institution to reflect the rapidly developing nature of the economy and has benchmarked RDB against an ideal profile of personnel with a view of lifting individual and collective capacity of the institution,” Gara said.
