$63m US funded project to support 72,000 families

CHF International in partnership with the Government of Rwanda last week launched USAID/Higa Ubeho - a family-focused program that will see over 72,000 Rwandan families develop sustainable ways of coping with health and economic challenges. The program, will be implemented in 20 districts to help tackle social challenges among orphans, vulnerable children, people living with HIV/AIDS and their families, according to a press release. “The $63m program will help increase families’ access to quality health and social services, improve household response to financial obstacles through economic, nutritional and educational support,” reads the statement. It is also expected to support voluntary counseling and testing activities, carry out youth intervention programs, provide antiretroviral (ARV) drugs and treatment and support education and life skills training for orphans and vulnerable children. In the area of improving agricultural yields, the program will create farmer field schools in the 20 selected districts where farmers and their families will learn from each other on how to increase their yields and to grow nutritious food. CHF International has been operating in Rwanda since 2005 and currently manages multiple projects in Rwanda focused on health, economic development, and capacity building. Ends
