Does attending a wedding matter more than contribution

A wedding is something we all dream of save for a few people who choose to be bachelors for life. It is as most say cemented by both culture and religion. There are society norms that come along with the wedding issue. Currently, a wedding is never a concern of one party but friends, relatives and sometimes workmates. People take concern of others` marriage or weddings, based on different grounds which also lead to individuals taking particular steps towards making the ceremony successful In society today, some people look at contributing money for the couple as a key factor towards the wedding which is indeed important although partly believed. In this perspective, members will make all possible efforts to raise money for such a committed friend or couple, but time and again reports of ignoring to attend the colorful event have always emerged. There is indeed a lot to think about whenever people contribute but fail to show up at a wedding, yet others never bother contributing but their presence is noticed. Of course many reasons will be put forward but getting a genuine one is hard since the date is communicated months before, says one Alex whose wedding was last month. He however admits that it’s possible for some to miss due to sensible reasons, but insists that it’s also possible for others to miss intentionally since they contributed. “Although contributions by friends, relatives and workmates come at a right time of organizing the wedding, their attendance is also what is needed at the event.” The newly married man, says although a combination of factors is what makes the wedding lovely, it’s disappointing to spend on luxurious commodities and end up hosting only a handful of guests. “What makes the wedding couple happy and excites the public is the crowd the event attracts making it a record. I was very happy to see that whenever I tried to be observant, almost every friend and those of my wife attended our wedding,” he says. Jean, 25 is a business man operating at Kwarubangura. He clarifies on why and how people may fail to attend particular ceremonies despite effective communication and making contributions. He says; “yes, some people intentionally decide to dodge or ignore weddings because there are others who misunderstand what contributions towards weddings is, “Therefore they go on harassing and embarrassing others for failure to respect their pledges on time.” Jean gives a brief explanation on how failure to respond on time may arise especially on issues that call for money. He says; “people have a line up of responsibilities and normally consider priorities. Since contributing towards a wedding is ones’ wish and done out of consideration, it’s being impolite to make frequent calls that you are reminding a person about his or her pledge.” He adds “Certain calls come at a time when people are bothered with other demands of life in their families or other related challenges,” he said. He explains at length how possible ones’ mind maybe set to believe his contribution is more important than attending these weddings. The man points out that there is a tendency of people targeting to benefit from these weddings by stretching their budgets but later substitute it with a cheaper one after receiving contributions. Claudine Umutoni, 30, is a resident of Kimihurura who is planning for her wedding in two months time. She says that although the key player is the husband, she also does what she can. “I do not know what will happen, but I pray that my colleagues come on to help me through contributing and giving ideas on how to handle and organize to make it a successful one especially those who have passed through this,” she says. She also explains what causes challenges as negative ideas and mentality especially when time is running out to the wedding date. “When people pledge, the organizing committee plans on such promises so whenever time runs out without their contributions, it becomes a rush hour which may even call for reminding them.” She adds that “a pledge is a personal wish, so reminding me about it has no problem, human beings can forget and I will always appreciate a person who reminds me most especially on issues I admitted willingly or promised to do.” There will always be situations that will either lead to failure or success in every undertaking human beings intend to accomplish.
