Umwalimu SACCO urged to deliver better services

Employees of the Teachers’ Savings and Credit Cooperatives, (Umwalimu SACCO) have been urged to fulfill their duties by ensuring quality service delivery to members. The call was made yesterday by Jean Marie Vianney Nzagahimana, the scheme’s chairman of the Board of Directors at the end of a three-day training of top management of Umwalimu SACCO held at Rwandex, Kicukiro District. “This training comes to facilitate you in fulfilling the promises of giving best services to members. We expect total commitment and to use the acquired skills to realize the goals of the scheme,” Nzagahimana said. The trainees, who included branch managers and credit analysts from all branches of the cooperative countrywide, were trained mainly in credit analysis and appraisal, risk management and loan recovery. The principle activities of the cooperative are handling members’ savings and recycling them into credit loans. The training is the first of its kind since Umwalimu SACCO started in 2008. It currently has over 42,000 members with 16 branches countrywide. In a separate interview with The New Times, Nzagahimana, however, said that there has been low turn up of teachers in private schools since 70 percent of the members are from government schools. The scheme, which carters for primary and secondary school teachers and lecturers in higher institutions of learning, has no members from the latter. About 23,000 members have so far benefited from scheme in form of loans. Ends
