Kayiranga opens up on why he quit

FORMER Rayon Sport coach Baptista Kayiranga has blamed fans’ impatience as the sole reason why he quit as blues coach on Saturday, Times Sport can exclusively reveal. The 50-year-old coach threw in the towel after his side lost to old foes Kiyovu 2-3 at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium. The blues had taken a two goal lead but then a series of mistakes allowed Kiyovu to come back and win the tie. The result coupled by threats and abuses from the club fans forced the ex-striker to quit prematurely after the blues’ fans threatened to lynch him. “They (fans) had been so abusive and violent (throwing stones at me) after the last few league matches and actually one of them threw a bottle with urine at me which I found very intolerable” he said before adding, “After the Kiyovu match, some fans threatened to lynch me and the Police was put on red alert but then I realized that the best thing for me and the fans was to resign.” Prior to his resignation, Kayiranga had been issued an ultimate of winning three of Rayon’s four remaining league fixtures (Kiyovu, Musanze, Amagaju and bitter rivals APR). Kayiranga was the last coach to put a smile on Rayon fans back in 2004 when the club won the league although he was controversially sacked a year later. During the 2008/09 season, he returned to the club as an assistant coach to Raoul Shungu before being named head coach after Shungu was sacked for indiscipline. Ends
