A few weeks ago, the Presidents of the great lakes region agreed to get involved disarming and repatriating of Ex-FAR/Interahamwe currently operating in eastern DRC. They also recommitted themselves to halt supporting negative forces in the region and settle for the urgent need to implement the existing agreements between member states. This was done so that lasting solutions to the insecurity in the eastern Congo region would be found. Kigali previously appointed an ambassador to Kinshasa but the latter rejected him. Now I have learnt that Rwanda’s embassy may re-open its doors in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in September next year. This is good news for the growing relationship of the two countries. The government of Rwanda has been waiting for guaranteed security of the diplomats because of the expanding population in Kinshasa against RwandansRwanda broke its ties with Kinshasa after a French magistrate issued indictments against some Rwandan government officials. The two countries have not been having ambassadors in each others territories due to diplomatic disagreements that rose between them due to the presence of Rwandan genocidal forces on the Congolese soil. We only hope that the relationship will grow. Kanombe
