Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association, Raba has sent an invitation to their Ugandan counterparts about the possibility of staging a friendly bout in Kigali on December 22. According to Raba Secretary General, Eugene Ndashyikirwa, Rwanda wants to use the event as part of their preparations for next year’s Beijing Olympics Games qualifiers. The remaining two qualifying rounds are slated for February and April next year in Algeria and Nigeria respectively. “We wrote to them and we’re just waiting for their response,” Ndashyikirwa told Times Sport on Friday. Ndashyikirwa also noted that the Raba technical director, Gashuji Kananura travelled to Kampala last week, purposely to strike a deal with his Ugandan counterpart on how best the event would be staged. Raba had initially invited Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania to take part in the tournament but only the Kampala federation responded positively. Meanwhile, middleweight national champion, Vincent Nsegiyumva, has said that he is not afraid of the Ugandan boxers and that he is ready to face them in the ring. In a related development, local boxers have urged the national boxing governing body, Raba to arrange for the start of the national team’s residential training as early as possible in preparation for the two upcoming Olympics qualifiers.
